Bochnia was captured on a local 2 złoty coin issued by The National Bank of Poland, which holds the exclusive right to issue currency in the Republic of Poland. The series of coins: “Historic Towns of Poland” includes 32 commemorative currency coins made from Nordic Gold alloy. This unique series commemorates towns of crucial importance in the history of Poland.
Obverse
In the central part there is an image of an eagle, the emblem of the Republic of Poland. On the right the lettering ‘2 ZŁ’. On top there is a semicircle with the lettering ‘RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA’ (The Republic of Poland) and the year of issue ‘2006’. Below the eagle, there is a stylised depiction of a fragment of town wall with a battlement and an open gate with lifted portcullis. There is the sign of the mint under the left foot of the eagle ‘MW’. The author of the obverse is Ewa Tyc – Karpińska.
Reverse
A stylised image of the Saint Nicolaus Basilica, below which is an image of mining tools from Bochnia’s crest. On top there is a semicircle with the lettering ‘BOCHNIA’. The author of the reverse is Ewa Olszewska – Borys.
On the edge: There is the lettering ‘NBP’ on the edge. It’s repeated 8 times, every other lettering is upside down; they are separated by stars.
